Kit Teung (I Miss You)
Feb 1st, 2008 | By Boy @ Heart | Category: Songs
The idea for this song had been rattling around in my head for some time after I had heard some folk music from Thailand’s Isaan (North East) region. The rhythm of much of that music is quite upbeat and it inspired me to do something like that of my own, although the result is somewhat removed from the original sound in my head.
This is mostly due to the fact that I could not play what was in my head on the guitar. This song, although apparently quite simple, brought me to discover a limitation in my playing ability, so I now have a new area to practice. Great! This means I have an opportunity to grow some more as a musician; no shying away from musical styles that I find too difficult to play.
You will most likely hear that my playing ability is really being stretched beyond it’s normal limit on this song!
It’s a lament with some added optimism.
Kit Teung - Thai for “I miss you”. Well, actually the literal translation is “Miss”. “I miss you” is actually “Kit teung khun”, but it is often just said as “Kit teung”.
There you are: Thai lesson over for today.

Nice track guv’, like the guitar strumming style, it’s beautiful!

Cheers for listening, glad you like it. I am really happy about how well this song has been received, especially on a few songwriting forums, so maybe I’m doing OK.
