I had the musical idea for this song going around in my head for quite some time and recently it evolved into this song. I was quite pleased with it posted it to my profile for The 50/90 songwriting challenge (to write 50 songs in 90 days) and focused on working on my debut album.

It transpires that this song has proved to be quite a hit with a few of the other songwriters on the challenge. Somebody cited it as one of her favourite songs and that notion was approved by others too. It made me realise that what I see as my best songs really are only my opinion and you just cannot predict what makes a great song all the time because so much of it depends on the listener. Yet more evidence of the fact that reality is in most part created by yourself.

This is why people’s perception of art is so wildly varied. Everything is potentially art, because it is up to the person who experiences it to decide what it is to them. What I don’t understand as artistic, may be someone else’s idea of a perfect expression of art. This is why I have a bit of a problem with some critics in the media because many of them (not all) give you their opinion without any awareness that is all they are giving you. Another reason to welcome both good and bad reviews of your work, because that means exposure. For everyone who doesn’t like your work, there is another who loves it and a review of either polarity plays a part in introducing a potential fan of your work, who would otherwise not have discovered it.

I also had the privilege of sharing some of my insights about making music in an interview on Blog Talk Radio with Maria Palma, who is a professional blogger, artist and entrepreneur in California USA.

Hearts on Fire
Look inside, you have everything required to set our hearts on fire. This is a line from the song and the one which reminded me, as I wrote it that no matter where you believe yourself to be in your life, you are affecting people and things around you and with that in mind you can choose to be inspiring. Funny thing is that I wrote down an intention that I have expressed in thought for years that I want to inspire people, about two days after actually writing it down on paper I received a comment on this song from a fellow songwriting member of the 50/90 challenge that their heart had been set on fire and they felt inspired. That’s the power everybody has if they wish to access it and it is not hard to do, simply decide that it is what you want to do and mean it! You could inspire somebody in the most unexpected way and it doesn’t even have to be profound. In fact the reality is that you do inspire people everyday, so the real point is to choose to be aware of how you do.

Just for the record. Everybody who visits The Weekly Songcast inspires me to keep going and for that I am eternally grateful.

Enjoy!

  • I think this is one of your best :) Great work, love it!
  • Thanks Krisite. It certainly seems to have been a very well received song. I may have to re-think things and put this on the debut album.
So many songs and only space for a few!

    Be well.
